We at Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania IB World School (DP) launched the SDG awareness programme on 15 August, 2022 as a #CAS# initiative. The aim of the project is to explore and create awareness about the 17 sustainable development goals, created by the UN for the purpose of making the world a better place for future generations. The IBDP year 1 students wanted to introduce these topics to their juniors rather than fellow students, since it is the bright ideas of the younger age group that will lead to a brighter future. On the occasion of World Literacy Day on 8th September they organised a collaborative story telling activity with the elementary section of the school.
They named the initiative "Kathanika: narrating stories, creating memories," because they felt it was accurate for their approach of teaching young minds in an interactive way.
To successfully spread awareness about this relatively new topic, the students were split into 11 groups with at least four students in each group, one from each IBDP CAS club, to include diverse skill sets. Almost every group had two goals to cover. The audience was the 4th grade classes. They enacted stories and included games and puppet shows to introduce the SDGs and explain their significance.
The experience was truly enriching, as in the process of forming session plans, they too learnt a lot about the SDGs. They also honed their research and creativity skills. It was especially amazing to see the young children have such avid curiosity about the project and their level of awareness about social issues. This event was a great introduction to our mission of adopting all the sustainability goals we can, and leave the world a better place for the future generations.
