The session was conducted by Ms. Sarah Charles who started it off with an upbeat introductory video about the myriad courses offered at the Arts University Bournemouth, UK. She acquainted students with the background of 3D corsets and how it adversely affected women’s bodies. The workshop focused on making unique corsets, which were commonly worn by women in Europe in the Victorian era. She demonstrated how designers today, are incorporating the concept of exoskeletons, disfigured bodies and redefining traditional corsets. These corsets were to be made by each group (IBDP and ISC Students) using newspaper, tape and chart papers in 30 minutes. Two participants in each group had to play the role of a fashion designer and one was the model. This task introduced students to basic fashion styling and simple designing. The final ramp walk was the highlight of the workshop, where each creative corset pieces were displayed by the models. This experience was enriching as it provided a chance to exhibit students skills and creativity.
