English Speech Competition- Reducing Inequalty

Nov 24, 2022
Warren Buffett said, “If you can’t communicate and talk to other people and get across your ideas, you’re giving up your potential.” On 24 November, 2022, the DP year 1 students participated in a Speech Competition which was an enriching collaborative effort between English and CAS, on the theme of reducing inequality, a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal. The entire cohort of 2022-24 grasped the opportunity to share their invaluable thoughts on some of the concerning global issues regarding several forms of inequalities in different aspects of human life. The platform turned out to be a beautiful blend of our ATL skills for the young learners as they got to try their potential at communication and thinking skills simultaneously honing their capacity to research and manage time effectively. The event witnessed the culmination of this speech competition as the selected top 10 speakers delivered their speeches in front of our guest judges, who recognized the best 3. The event had two guest judges, Dr. Sohini Sengupta and Ms. Madhumita Dhar. The former teaches post-graduate MA and PhD courses that include Social Policy, Social Theory, Gender and Sustainable Development, and Ethnography at TISS, Mumbai and our second guest judge was none other than our very own Sulonian family member, ISC English Teacher. Apart from the tough competition between the speakers, a short mime act was performed by the Year 1 students on Breaking Gender Stereotypes. The act touching upon the invisible and unconscious stereotypical restraints at home and society was received with appreciation from all. Our DPC, Mrs. Sangeeta Kapur congratulated each one of them. She announced the three winners along with one consolation prize and gave away the certificates to them. The first position was bagged by Sven Arahna, the second by Vidhi Shanklesha, the third position went to Parthsarthi Sharma and the consolation prize was received by Aditri Shitole.
