Chemistry Special Assembly
Jul 25, 2022
This is the tale of a gathering, an assembly, to spark the common public’s long lost interest in pure sciences, especially chemistry. The chemistry assembly had been in the works for over five months with the first official date being Mar 18, 2022. Since then, the consistent efforts of the students has become the key ingredient of their success.
The concept for the assembly was born from one simple thought, ‘we would like to try the explosive part of chemistry.’ Of course the condition was that it had to be safe. This led to the students performing live reactions ranging from lava lamps to coloring fire. Concepts like release of gas in different densities, foaming of an aerosol, and coloured states of transition metals were explored. This allowed them to explore and share the concepts in a way that made it interactive.
The persistent little effort from the small group of DP2 chemistry students gave rise to such a beautiful learning experience. The research and collaboration used by them will go on to help them in other aspects of life. They were true IB learners - inquirers, researchers, risk takers and communicators personified.
